Stitching Back Seattle
Interstate 5 is a freeway that runs north/south through the heart of Seattle, splitting the residential area of Capitol Hill from the central business district of Downtown. Recently, a group of urban activists and designers has proposed a solution to this problem in the form of a “lid” or cover over the I-5 roadway that would re-connect the city’s urban grid as well as provide new, and much needed, open space. My project supports this effort by developing a series of design guidelines aimed at enhancing the pedestrian experience of the new lidded area.
Touristification in Naples
Naples, the regional capital of Campania, is the fourth largest economy in Italy, after Milan, Rome and Turin. It is essential to comprehend how tourism / touristification has affected or influenced Naples, not just economically, but more specifically of the social and geographical aspects. This project looks into how touristification have reshapes historical city centres in southern Europe, to allow us to get a feeling for how this process could be affecting the city centre of Naples itself, and therefore further explore, research, and understand how touristification is felt in historical city center of Naples.
Understanding Public Spaces in
Amsterdam and Taipei
As we become surrounded by the various ‘smart’ solutions, we are now more aware of the effects and influences brought by it, especially in urban public spaces. How has our urban public spaces been influenced and effected by the use of and implementation of the different ‘smart’ approaches needs to be further understood. This research, hence, focuses on the understanding of how the concept of ‘Smart City’ is connected to and has influenced the functioning of public spaces through the attempt to answer the question, “What are the effects of the ‘Smart City’ concept on the functioning of public spaces?”.
